Kyle Kinane Atlanta Concert reviews
They Didn’t Bring Their A Game This Time
Derek Trucks is one of my favorite guitar players of all time, and Tedeschi Trucks is one of my favorite bands of all time. Every show is full of passion and fire, and they bring the house down without fail, feeding off the energy of the music, the audience, and the venue. They were technically brilliant, but something seemed wrong on Saturday night. It felt like they were just playing the songs, without those magical moments of locking into "The Song" and jamming into bliss. It just didn't happen.
The mix wasn't very good either. The horns overpowered everything, making it hard to hear Derek wailing except for the intros and low-gear parts.
Also, the PA speakers underneath the balcony were unused. Those speakers have been a godsend in previous shows at the Ryman when I sat from H row back. I have seen Tedeschi Trucks between 10-15 times, not to mention the times I've seen Susan Tedeschi solo, the Derek Trucks Band, and various incarnations of The Allman Brothers Band.
